Samantha Kappagoda was reappointed to ABA SciTech (American Bar Association Science and Technology Law) Section leadership positions, where she has been an active member since 2019. Samantha will continue serving as Vice-Chair of both the Big Data Committee and the Internet-of-Things Committee, and has been newly appointed as Vice-Chair of the Risk and Trust Management Committee. She previously also served from 2019 to 2023 as Vice-Chair of the Insurance Technology and Risk Committee.
Samantha Kappagoda’s ABA SciTech Leadership Reappointment 2024-2025
Samantha’s reappointment to ABA SciTech leadership for 2024-2025, including her new role as Vice-Chair of the Risk and Trust Management Committee, reflects an expanding engagement with the legal and policy frameworks governing AI, data, and emerging technology that is directly relevant to her board governance responsibilities. Combined with her concurrent service as Independent Director at Credit Suisse Funds under UBS, Member of the University of Toronto Business Board, and Chief Data Scientist at Numerati® Partners, this reappointment reinforces a profile that integrates technical depth, governance experience, and policy engagement across multiple institutional contexts.
Recently Samantha co-authored a two-part article published in the Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 Issues of the American Bar Association (ABA) SciTech Lawyer, titled Objects May Be Closer Than They Appear: Uncertainty and Reliability Implications of Computer Vision Depth Estimation for Vehicular Collision Avoidance and Navigation. The two installments in this series primarily focused on depth estimation tasks associated with operating and environmental conditions as well as spatial and temporal scales generally applicable to rural and highway settings (Part 1) and to urban settings (Part 2).
