Samantha Kappagoda was reappointed to ABA SciTech (American Bar Association Science and Technology Law) Section leadership positions for 2025-2026, where she has been an active member since 2019. Samantha will continue serving as Vice-Chair of three Committees Big Data; Internet-of-Things; and Risk and Trust Management. She previously served from 2019 to 2023 as Vice-Chair of the Insurance Technology and Risk Committee.
Samantha Kappagoda’s ABA SciTech Reappointment 2025-2026
Samantha’s seventh year of ABA SciTech leadership reflects a consistent commitment to engaging with technology law and policy that complements and informs her board governance responsibilities. Her Vice-Chair roles across the Big Data, Internet-of-Things, and Risk and Trust Management Committees place her at the intersection of legal, technical, and governance perspectives on AI and emerging technology, a combination that is distinctive among board directors and directly relevant to corporate boards navigating technology-driven oversight challenges.
Samantha is an active member of the ABA and participated as a panelist at the ABA Panel: Hot Topics in AI Governance on May 19, 2025. In earlier years Samantha co-authored a two-part article published in the Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 Issues of the American Bar Association (ABA) SciTech Lawyer, titled Objects May Be Closer Than They Appear: Uncertainty and Reliability Implications of Computer Vision Depth Estimation for Vehicular Collision Avoidance and Navigation. The two installments in this series primarily focused on depth estimation tasks associated with operating and environmental conditions as well as spatial and temporal scales generally applicable to rural and highway settings (Part 1) and to urban settings (Part 2). She previously also presented at the ABA Annual Meeting and Intellectual Property Law Conference.

She is an active contributor at governance forums in USA, Canada and UK, addressing AI and data governance, cybersecurity, financial markets and global macroeconomic trends. She has served as faculty at NYU Directors’ Academy, NACD Masterclass on Technology Innovation & Oversight and Diligent Institute, and been an invited panelist at conferences including Character of the Corporation, Corporate Board Member, Independent Directors Council, Institute of Directors UK, NACD Summit, Private Directors Association, Society for Corporate Governance and WGOB Canada.
